Welcome to Varberg Mahjong Society

We are a club for everyone who enjoys mahjong — from the very first game to international tournaments.

Mahjong is a game for four players with tiles instead of cards. It takes an evening to learn and a lifetime to master, and above all it is a wonderful excuse to sit down together for a few hours.

More opportunities to play Mahjong – Jämnt skägg! 🀄

More opportunities to play Mahjong – Jämnt skägg! 🀄

There are now even more opportunities for those who want to meet up, play Mahjong and get some extra games in during the week!

Martin’s Midweek Mahjong – Jämnt skägg is up and running. The idea is simple: just playing, full tables and good company. 🀄❤️

The game nights are usually held on Wednesdays or Thursdays, but occasionally a Tuesday may pop up as well. So keep an eye on our events and sign up whenever there’s a date that suits you.

At our latest game night, we were a perfectly even 12 players – three full tables! But there’s room for many more. We can accommodate up to 24 players, both upstairs and downstairs, playing on a mix of automatic and traditional Mahjong tables.

It’s simply another opportunity to meet and play – whether you want more practice, are preparing for tournaments, or just really enjoy playing Mahjong with others.

Keep an eye out for Jämnt skägg among our upcoming events and sign up when you can join us.

The more we are, the more full tables we can make! 🀄🀄🀄🀄

Mahjong om mondays

Monday Mahjong is back! Sign up online ♥️♥️♥️

🀄 Monday Mahjong is back! 🀄

Yesterday we had our first Monday Mahjong of the autumn at Folkets Hus – and we were 26 people! You could definitely say it was a full house, since 28 is our absolute maximum. So much fun to see so many people around the tables again! ❤️

We also talked a little about what the future of mahjong in Varberg might look like, and there is definitely more to discuss. But as far as I’m concerned, my involvement this autumn will mainly be Monday Mahjong at Folkets Hus. I’ll continue to organise and run the Monday sessions, but apart from that, I’ll be stepping back a little.

That definitely doesn’t mean I’m going to stop playing mahjong – quite the opposite! If other people want to organise games, gatherings or other initiatives on different days or at other venues, I’ll be very happy to join and play whenever I can. I simply think there’s plenty of room for more people to organise things, so I’m setting the market free (although the market has, of course, always been free 🤣🤣🤣) for other organisers. 😊

I’ll also continue to organise some tournaments, including VIMO, the Swedish Championship, Höstcupen, East River Open, the Mother’s Day Tour Tournament, Glasdraken, and probably WYA next year as well.

❗ Important for Mondays:

Since we have a maximum number of players, it’s important to sign up in good time. Registration is now done through our web application at VarbergMahjong.se. If you need any help with how it works, just get in touch with me or Johan.

The Facebook page will of course remain. You’re welcome to create events, post updates and use the page for anything mahjong-related happening in Varberg.

I’ll write more later about what we discussed yesterday – but right now I have to rush off!

Thank you for a fantastic first Monday, and a very warm welcome back next week! 🀄

Full house at Folkets Hus

Full house at Folkets Hus! We even had one person too many. 29 people and 7 tables! Amazing. And quite a few of our regular players were away. Where is this going to end? 😄

Anyway, congratulations to Karro, Marina, Martin, Vicky, Rainbow, Agneta and Ksenia, who won their tables.

We had some cake, and Jessica had baked some delicious bread as well.

Don’t forget to sign up quickly for next Monday – the spots are going like hotcakes!

Varberg Autumn Cup 2026

Ingrid-Maria E. 2026-08-13
🀄 Registration for the Autumn Cup is now open! 🀄

Last year, no fewer than 32 players took part, and after many exciting games, Martin emerged victorious! The year before, Karro claimed the title. 🏆

The cup is played as a knockout tournament. The first- and second-place players at each table advance to the next round. This continues until only four players remain to compete in the grand final!

The registration deadline is 30 September. The table draw will also take place on that date.

Who will win the Autumn Cup this year? 😍🀄

Mahjong vacation

Ingrid-Maria E. 2026-07-13
Ironically, I recently joked that I was going to be as cool as Anders and take a one-month mahjong vacation. Well… that didn’t quite happen. 😄
Instead, today I played four games in four completely different and wonderful locations:
🏖️ Game 1 on the beach with Marie N, Pia B, and Martin.
🏡 Game 2 at Maggan’s house with Martin and Maria.
🏙️ Game 3 on Marina’s rooftop with Marieke and Alma.
🌳 Game 4 in a little fairytale grove at Vicky’s place in Tofta with Maria and Danne.
My results were perfectly balanced: one first place, one second place, one third place, and one fourth place.
This is probably what I love most about mahjong—not just the game itself, but the people, the places, and all the memories made along the way. ❤️🀄

Welcome to the blog

Welcome to our blog!

For a long time, our website has been the place to find statistics, rankings, and tournament results. It will, of course, continue to be that—but from now on, it will be much more than that.

This blog is where you’ll find stories about what’s happening in Varberg Mahjong Society. We’ll share news about tournaments, game nights, visitors, special events, and everything else that makes our community so vibrant. We hope the website will not only present numbers but also tell the stories behind them.

This week has been a great example of just how active our community is. Many of our players have recently returned from the European Mahjong Championship, where Alma Klasson achieved an excellent result and finished as the top player from Varberg. Congratulations, Alma!

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Floor from the Netherlands, who visited our Mahjong Kafé and played two games—leaving Varberg undefeated.

Meanwhile, mahjong continues to thrive throughout the Varberg area. Games have been played at Rödlix Camping, at the Eklund family’s home, and today players will gather again at Kolonin. It’s wonderful to see mahjong being enjoyed in so many different places by so many enthusiastic players.

We hope you’ll enjoy following our blog and checking back regularly to see what’s happening in Varberg Mahjong Society. This is just the beginning!
